~ inspiring military leadership excellence through emotional intelligence ~
‘Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities, because it is the quality that guarantees all others’

Sir Winston S. Churchill
Delivering military capability involves not only technical expertise and fighting spirit, but leaders who inspire others through behaviour that reflects courage in the face of the enemy and understanding in the promotion of peace.  ‘If your authority to lead as defined by your rank or position power was taken away – why should anybody follow you?’ This question, included in our leadership development overview, applies to the military as much as it does to those in other leadership roles.

A Google search on ‘Emotional Intelligence & Military Leadership’ identifies an abundance of resources on (142,000 at the last count), and a growing interest in EQ and its relevance to the military context. This section is specifically devoted to the Royal Air Force and its officers seeking to develop leadership excellence through emotional intelligence within a challenging and stimulating learning environment.

Our RAF EQ leadership development model integrates coaching, workshop and on-line resources based on the EQ Executive Leadership programme, (links to left) with a focus on the particular challenges faced within a military leadership context.

The attribute of courageous war fighter first and foremost, the distinctions and overlaps between command, leadership and management emphasised both by the RAF Leadership Centre and the Leadership Defence Academy, are prominent throughout.
